The Greenskins March - Stompas and Dakkajets completed!

Heya welcome back to the webway!

Right now I am quite happy to say that my Waargh!!! for the Apocalypse battle is complete (at least for the big things), and all this within a span of a month! I am always rather surprised on how Orks are the most stress-free when it comes to painting and also converting them and they are a stark contrast to my Dark Eldar.

As you can see in the pic, the cat brought in another Stompa! This one was made out of cardboard and other stupid gubbins in my kit (which amazingly gave me yet another stompa). I will call this Long John as he is rather skinny.

I also managed to get my hands on an airbrush and within a few short moments with it I went ahead
with some rather impressive effects for a dude who handled his airbrush for the first time.

I also managed to finish all my jets, and man they are fun to build and paint! The two scratchbuild ones are build out of even more random garbage and also leftovers from the stompas. Also since I failed to sell away my Devilfishes, I decided that as a true ork, I will need to loot them.

Sadly enough the pic of the other Dakkajet is corrupted, so this pic will have to make do. This pic was taken when I am arranging them for the next few pictures.

And now here is a group pic of some of the orks I have painted, along with some of the boyz.

I can't wait to use them all in the upcoming battle and beat face with them! Now I will proceed with painting the other nonsensical ork things. Until next time, see ya!

Happy Chinese New Year And Also Some Pics Of Another DakkaJet

Heya all and welcome back to the webway!

As a Chinese Malaysian, I wish all the readers a happy and prosperous Chinese New Year and may you guys have a good year in both business, health and wealth,  and not to mention for our dear hobby!

On that remark, I have been a little busy a while with my orks during the lull in the relative visiting and festivities, and somehow while I was making my second Stompa, I somehow build this dude instead. He is a rather monstrous aircraft and indeed due to its size I will make him my primary Dakkajet of awesomeness.

The main issue I have with this dude as well as the other Dakkajet is the matter of making his flight stand and also the flyer base, which will be a project in itself.

Anyhow, time to get back to getting the red packets that can become the funds for my 40k armies!

Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuu....and Here's a Stompa

Heya all and welcome back to the webway!

It has been a stupid while since I have updated anything in this blog, but that is what I get for being a Human Resources Executive (It is a challenging job and I like it, but it does burn my time I used to have for the hobby). Nonetheless I have not stopped in the hobby side of things as I am now really appreciating my hobby time a lot.

What does it all mean? That means I am seriously allowed to go crazy for assembling some stuff without a care. I have already procured three Taloi and around 20+ Harlequins for my own Dark Eldar madness pursuits and decided to assemble all the remaining Wyches and Kabalites in sprues for future nonsense such as an Apocalypse game.

Speaking about Apocalypse, I was asked by my gaming group to become one part of the Ork Waargh!!! that will be themed around the 3rd War of Armageddon  with the other part of this Waargh!!! being Mr.Chaos of Internetz fame (Man I love being able to be buddies with such a talented madman. In order to get this Waargh!!! all proppa, I have decided that I will complement Mr.Chaos' orks with my own scrap-build madness and allow our side to field a Stompa mob!

Here's the progress for my first stompa, and with the exception of the close combat arm and the necessary chips and grazes I believe he is as complete as it comes. I affectionately call it 'Big Bertha', and I had forgotten the joys of assembling models until I made this stompa using all the nonsensical bitz I have stored in my botz box and also using unwanted things to make this Stompa.

In a way, thanks to this Apocalypse battle, I have found my passion for my Orks once more!

Will be updating with some Orks, as I find my Dark Eldar has reached a certain threshold of evil that players tend to look at my Dark Eldar with a 'Oh god, that army again....." and in many ways I have also burned out on my Dark Eldar a little.

I hope to see ya the next time round!

Mustering of the Kabal - Basing and Basecoating the Display Board

Heya all and welcome back!

Real life is rough right now, and the hobby has been in the backburner for the past few weeks. But what I could do during those down times, I do it with lots of heart.

With that I can safely say that Phase 2 of my display board is now complete!

My terrain is covered with layers of fine sand found in aquariums, some rougher sand, and several different kinds of gravel. I actually enjoyed doing the basing for this as the unfinished look really reminds me of the landscape of Starship Troopers.

And the basecoating went very well, as I learned a technique from a friend of mine to smear filler putty upon my polystyrene to coat it with a protective layer and preventing the aerosol paint from melting the polystyrene. It went very well indeed.

With that done, I can now go on to the next phase of making this display board a reality! Stay tuned for the progress!

Mustering of the Kabal - Phase 1 of Display Board

Heya all and welcome back!

Managed to get a little bit of terrain for the display board done or to be exact all the hills. Cutting styrofoam with a foam cutter is pretty awesome and unnaturally addictive.

Tadaaa!

I was a little lost when it comes to cutting foam, as I do not know how to do the texture for rocks. But after a while of experimenting, I managed to pull it off and I must say that it looks pretty natural now.

I realized that my idea of a display board would be better served with a little rock plateau that would act as a point where my HQ would stand, and thus I carved one out to fulfill the purpose.

Creating the rocky slope from the second plateau to the first one proved to be a rather difficult challenge, as I do not know how much do I have to cut to make it blend seamlessly to the first platform.

And here is the dry fit of all the vehicles in my default 1750 pts list.  Surprisingly everything fits and I have enough space for a 2k army even with the infantry marching below. I actually am fond of the negative space that I could pull off, even with the infantry in tow (not that I have much infantry to begin with). Of course different builds could be made and be put on the display  board, and I have not even added in the other stuff, which may or may not be included in the board.

I will see how things go for now, and take my time on this undertaking. See ya all next time!

Mustering of the Kabal - Renilnar the Medusae A.K.A Farseer on Jetbike and completed Rhazal the Reaver Lord

Heya all and welcome back!

I forgotten to post these pics up a while back, but nonetheless here they are!

Say hello to Renilnar the Medusae!
Views from Above, front, and both sides
This clown has been in the making for quite some time, with lots of revision so that I have the feel that it is indeed a crazy Medusae cluster that gain a great degree of sentience and handing out awesome memories of pain around on a jetbike. With some bling, I managed to also make a rather feral personality that fits with this particular idea of mine.

Balancing out the blue in the model is perhaps the most challenging part when I was painting this model, as I wanted to incorporate the blue as one of the primary colours that I have for my colour scheme is blue (Blue optics for Kabalites, and blue hair for all the wych elements). This model is neither, and thus I have to play around a little mentally to see where I could splash the colour in.

As for the brains, I actually find it quite fun to paint. I basically painted the brain by painting the brains part white and then wash it with some Scaly Green wash and followed by a Scorpion Green wash. The raised parts are then painted back with white once more.

I am utterly pleased with how I painted this guy, and this guy will be rocking the table quite often now as a Farseer.

As for the other biker HQ dude, here he is in its completed form.

I decided that some spikes, hooks and skulls would not hurt on the otherwise rather plain plate, but choose to not go overboard with it.

This gun platform is scuplted using Grey Stuff and the guns are from the Venom sprue. I also decided to magnetize this part so that I could put in the other weapon options as well (Reaper Launcher and Fusion guns are fun).

For the dude, I finally found a way to make him regal enough without overdoing it; I just use the two banners from the Autarch and chopped them around to let them fit on the hips of the Reaver Lord. Some green stuff here and there and voila! Instant regal look!

While I was looking at the model, I noticed an unsightly part where despite my best efforts to put the magnets deep inside the body, it was jutting out like a sore thumb. With that I decided to use another Autarch part (the cloth) by trimming it down and just glued it in. Surprisingly it was am astounding success, covering the part and also giving the model a little pompousness as well.

I will not mess with the Reaver Lord anymore, as I find that simplicity is the best when it comes to blinging a dude out. As it is, he is already a massively converted model, and I do not want to take people's eyes off the main part of the conversion (the bike). I will be painting this bugger up once I am done with some stuff in real-life.

Stay tune for the next installment!

Mustering of the Kabal - Rhazal, the Reaver Lord A.K.A Autarch on bike (WIP)

Welcome back, and today I got a treat for you!

Say hello to Rhazal, the Reaver Lord!

With all the painting that I've done throughout these two months, I have just realized that I have not been making any miniatures for a while. I will be honest and say that my main passion in this hobby is not the gaming nor the painting, but in the assembly and converting.

As I was writing this battle report, I realized that making a Reaver army using the new Eldar codex would be utterly fun (if I decided to do it one day) and I realized that with a bucketful of Reavers, there must be a Reaver Lord. With that I scrounge my bitz box to see what I could do. After several hours, I managed to pull off a look that I like so far, barring the other bling.

First off, the bike.

Seeing that everyone always used the new Reavers for any conversion (including myself when it comes to the Count-as Farseer), I decided to use the old Reaver bike as the main frame for the bike. This gives the bike a rather unique silhouette and show to the world who's the boss.  For the frontal plate, I chopped one and glue the chopped bitz together to form a very long arrow-like shape with the other part being glue on the model and puttied to allow a smooth transition into the chassis. The Venom racks are also used to give a rather unique pair of 'horns' on the bike with the weird skull of the creature being glued on the plate to give a rather interesting headlights.

Seeing that the Reaver's pedals are not congruent with the legs I decided to cut them off and add more blades, while I use an extra reaver Bladevane with the pedals to make a whole new pedal for my Reaver Lord. However this also creates a problem as now the handles are way to far for the Reaver Lord. I solve this by putting the Venom's instruments and glueing two spikes on it to make a whole new handle and put it in line with the new Reavers.

Due to the location of the pedals and the steering, this also means that the pre-made seats were located at a very odd place, and thus I have to chop it all off and putty my own seats back. Personally I prefer the seats that I have made, as it looks more comfortable.

As for the Reaver Lord himself, I have decided to use another interesting bitz that I have acquired; the Autarch. Overall the body is quite fitting to what I want; a more commanding cruising pose than those of the sporting pose that are shared by all Reavers.

I went on ahead and ob off the head and replaced it with a Reaver's head while I used the Sybarite/Hekatrix back fin and glued it to where the flagpoles on the Autarch are meant to be glued.

The spike on his shoulder is an experiment to see if the old Dark Eldar spiky bits would fit on the Reaver Lord, but suffice to say it is not very fitting. I will have to rip this part off soon enough to test a new.

Since I love the lance, I decided to use the lance, but the Finecast part means that if I just glue it on, I will suffer a lot of disappointment and anguish. So I decided to magnetize it. This also gives me the chance to magnetize other weapon options.I bended the metal chains and hooks on the fins so that it would flow naturally with the zooming model.

This is how the model would look if I put them all together (dryfit for now). I intentionally put the magnets on the flight stand on a little slant so that it appears that it is speeding upwards to the sky.

Surprisingly, the bending of the chains to let it flow with the wind also accidentally solved a problem before it was apparent. By bending the chains, I managed to actually give enough space to put the Reaver Lord on his seat just barely.

I am rather pleased with this conversion as it is rather simple for creating a rather complex look for the Reaver Lord. Definitely an eye popper, and now I wonder what else I should put on him so that he feels a little more regal.

Will post pics once I am done with the second stage of the conversion.
