Hm.......Should I even go into this route for my Dark Eldar?

While I was making several 1999+ 1 lists, I wondered what happened if I just decide to just go for the shooty route? What if I eschew close combat entirely? With that I made this list over here.  It is somewhat boring to look at, but I believe it could also be quite a nasty list. Only problem with this list is that there is no assaulting elements and it would find some difficulty in breaking open some infantry blobs. I would like to call this my Gangland shooting list.

Build this list using the Battlescribe program, which is a very nice app to use. Not to mention that it is also free as compared to the Army Builder program.

  1. I'm finding myself exploring a similar build with my Dark Eldar as I've found that with 6th, our close combat options are no longer good at starting the assaults but they excel as one-shot counters.

For example, Wyches with haywire grenades are excellent counters to Drop-pod Dreadnoughts while Wracks are great for sweeping up tied up units (as long as the targets aren't Terminators).

Where my list differs from yours is that 2 Trueborne units are 3-person squads with 2 Lances and a bare Venom with 2 cannons (total:151 points). These 2 units are deployed disembarked so that the Venom can always move 12 and not cripple the Trueborn's shooting. No one ever shoots at a squad of 3 models in cover because there are so many more important threats, at least till turn 4.

Also, the lowly Kabalites are run at 20, without Raiders but with a blaster and 2 splinter cannons. In 1750 point games you can run 2 of these squads. One of them gets Sliscus so that 19 out of 20 models wound on 3s. Thanks to overwatch, small suads will rarely be able to reach you in close combat unless they started their charge from 3 inches away, especially if their armour does not ignore AP5.

These 2 blobs work in concert with 2 10-man squads in Raiders and a 5-man Blaster/Venom Squad.

All told, at 1750 points, if you run blob squads your opponent will be facing 65 Kabalites, not counting vehicles or Trueborn, which is a staggering amount of shooting.

Sure, you don't have any CC. Who cares because you'd buckle in CC anyways. You're better off staying back, shooting and running as long as you can because that's your strength.

Let the Marines stand and fight.

    1. True to the Haywire grenade option, which is perhaps the only true reason why I am keeping the Wyches in most of my lists.

As for the Lances with the Trueborn, I have not tried that combination yet. Would be quite interesting to see how they work. May take you up on it.

Was thinking about the infantry blob as well, but combined with a webway portal so that I can enter into the opponent's table quarter and blast their asses up close.

The blob may also work with a Farseer or Eldrad with the Divination path. I can imagine the overwatches and stuff that could result from the right kind of power being triggered.
